How Does ProlapLase® Work?

ProlapLase® is a cutting-edge non-invasive treatment designed to address pelvic organ prolapse (POP) through the use of Fotona lasers. Pelvic organ prolapse is a common condition affecting almost half of women who have given birth. Traditional treatments often involved pessaries or surgical procedures, both of which carried risks and complications.

In Fotona laser gynaecology, ProlapLase® emerged as a modern solution with minimal discomfort and no need for surgery.

The Science Behind ProlapLase®

The treatment uses a specially developed Er: YAG laser in a mode known as SMOOTH®. This laser generates photothermal effects in the mucosa tissue of the vaginal canal, stimulating collagen remodelling and encouraging the formation of new collagen fibres. The results are shrinkage and tightening of the vaginal tissue without the need for incisions or removal of tissue.

The Procedure

ProlapLase® is conducted in three steps:

  1. Circular laser irradiation of the vaginal canal.
  2. Targeted irradiation of the prolapsed vaginal wall.
  3. Laser treatment of the vestibule region.

This non-invasive procedure typically requires multiple sessions, with up to four treatments depending on the severity of the prolapse.

Advantages of ProlapLase®

The key benefits of ProlapLase® include the absence of cutting, bleeding, or sutures, and a virtually painless experience. No special pre- or post-operative care is required, and patients can resume daily activities immediately. ProlapLase® offers a promising and effective alternative to traditional surgery for pelvic organ prolapse, delivering high patient satisfaction with minimal discomfort.
